1815 HISTORIC GEM…This elegant and comfortable home is a classic example of an early center hall eyebrow house. Small windows on the second floor, covered with geometric decorative grilles, pilasters on the corners of the house, and the columned front porch show the influence of Greek Revival architecture which was not in vogue until later. The inside of the house is remarkably intact with countless original details including doors, windows, moldings, a wide front hallway with stair, and four working fireplaces (all rebuilt) with mantels in the library, living room, keeping room, and basement (the original kitchen). The keeping room and basement fireplaces each had beehive ovens enclosed by wooden doors. Upstairs, the master bedroom and bath suite takes up the back wing of the house, while a generous hall and two additional bedrooms are located in the front of the house. Built by Philip Clum in 1815, it is the oldest house in Philmont, a once prosperous mill town that features a large millpond, brick mill buildings, a spectacular waterfall, and an assortment of historic homes.
