BASILICA INDUSTRIA… The current owners purchased the property in 2000 and have promoted it as a performance space and place of assembly. In one of the first events (shown above) on September 15, 2001, the Basilica Industria and the Hudson Opera House created a inspiring event open to anyone searching for a place to meet, just days after the tragedy of 9/11. More than seven hundred people gathered to honor those who perished. A huge contained fire (shown in the top photo), monitored by the Hudson Fire Department, was viewed by the crowd who then lit candles and moved into the large interior spaces (lower photos) to hear moving speakers. Since that time, the Basilica Industria has provided a place for concerts (including Tom Tom Club and Patti Smith), theater (Walking the Dog Theater), opera (Diamond Opera), music, art, dance, non-profit fundraising, political and environmental activism, celebrations, weddings, and community events.
